The Hive

Our alumni & friends support programme

The Creativity & Change ‘Hive’ is our alumni & friends support programme, allowing us to build and maintain community with the educators, activists and artists who connect with us.

We have a number of Hive groups who meet regularly, and our team also provide ongoing support for our members and groups to develop workshops, events and access funding opportunities.

Our various ‘Hives’ include:

Speak Out! Theatre for Transformation

Through Playback theatre we aim to generate social change through the subversive act of deep listening in a time of sound bites and political polarization. We do this by creating space for the marginalised stories, the lesser heard stories, and the stories that just need to be told.

Playback theatre is a form of improvisation where the audience share personal stories that are then "played back" by a team of actors and musicians. We aim to create a welcoming space where everyone is heard, and community unfolds.

We perform and offer workshops every 6 weeks, often in collaboration with community organisations including the Irish Refugee Council, CATU, and the Cork Migrant Centre.

Theatre of the Oppressed

We have a Theatre of the Oppressed group, who work closely with field leaders, Julian Boal and Geo Britto from Escola de Teatro Popular (Brazil), Jose Soeiro (Portugal) and Sabrina Speranza (Argentina), as well as Irish and international TO companies.

The group have recently established the first TO festival and network in Ireland, in collaboration with Development Perspectives and Theatre for Change, Galway.

Artivist Studio

This is a weekly space for our alumni & friends to share practice, collaborate, find support, and develop capacities and tools for changemaking. This is often done through Zine making and working in our parklet outside the Quay Coop.

Timber

Timber is a Hive group encouraging people to fall in love with nature, by connecting members of the public with their ‘natural match’.

Timber started out as an awareness-raising project on our Creativity & Change course and has evolved as a fun interactive theatrical piece hosting nature wedding ceremonies at festivals and events throughout Ireland.

You can contact the group on Instagram at @timbermynaturalmatch.

Pleasure Activism

Pleasure Activism is a Hive project established during the Creativity & Change course, 2025, who are now continuing the work at workshop spaces, festivals, and events.

“We want people to consider pleasure and access to space in its broadest sense, as a social justice lens through which to see the world" - This is the mission statement for us as Pleasure Activism facilitators, who, drawing from the wisdom of the likes of adrienne maree brown and other changemakers, seek to engage participants in questioning systems of oppression through joy, play and community-building.

This space adapts to the participants and their needs, and therefore can be used in any setting, from schools to festivals, office spaces to music studios. Get in touch with aleeshawiegandt@gmail.com if you would like them to bring their energy to whatever setting you work, live or create in!
