Creativity & Change HOME

Creativity & Change is a vibrant learning community dedicated to global citizenship education. We believe in the power of creative engagement to inspire transformative learning—connecting head, hand, and heart—and to nurture the key competences needed for a sustainable and equitable world. Our approach helps learners build:
Since 2009, Creativity & Change has grown from a grassroots initiative into a thriving programme. It began at the Mayfield Community Arts Centre, founded by youth and community arts workers Jessica Carson and Nora Furlong. Through their work, they saw how creative projects rooted in local communities could spark meaningful conversations about global issues. At a time when these themes were far less visible in public consciousness, they recognised both the need and the desire for an approach that connects the arts with global justice education.
Today, that vision continues to drive our work as we support individuals and groups to engage with Global Citizenship and Development Education, explore the world creatively, critically, and compassionately—and to imagine and act for positive change. Creativity & Change sits within the Department of Arts in Health & Education at MTU Crawford. It is funded by Irish Aid and Munster Technological University.
Our work targets change-makers, educators, activists, artists, community workers, adult educators, youth workers, volunteers and anyone who is interested in how creative engagement can nurture global citizenship and empathic action around local and global justice themes.
Creativity & Change is for you if you can say ‘Yes!’ to these questions.
Our postgraduate certificate combines presentations, case studies, and group participation, with a focus on experiential learning, to explore the arts as a tool for advocacy and social action. Find out more information about the accredited award duration, content, and modules on the Certificate in Creativity & Change page and on the MTU course finder.
As well as our postgraduate certificate, we also offer a wide range of learning experiences. Our trainings are aimed at those working in adult & community education, youth work, or any non-formal learning setting. Learn more about our Deep-Dive trainings here. Additionally, we work directly with groups to offer workshops in creative methods. We are particularly interested in working with groups that are experiencing injustice.
The ‘Hive’ is our alumni & friends network. We are advocates for the importance of community in creating global change and so are committed to the continuation of connection with our learners, hosting spaces to support them to deepen their collaborations, strengthen their GCE practice, and further connect with learners and communities.
Our Hive groups are a space to energise continued creative action for global justice amongst our community and to support the ongoing professional development of Creativity & Change alumni. These groups include our Forum Theatre group, Playback Theatre group, and our Artivist studio.
