The Valerie Gleeson Development Bursary is awarded annually to a recent Fine Art Graduate from the Crawford College of Art & Design. The Bursary supports an emerging artist to move his/her practice in a new direction, and supports the research, development and/or realisation of new art work.
A development bursary award of €1000 can be used to directly support the production of new art work, the purchase of materials or equipment, specilaised production or/and to support travel or research costs or similar residency costs.
Valerie graduated from Crawford College of Art & Design in 1997. Valerie was an artist, a member of Cork Printmakers, and a member of the Governing Body of MTU (formerly Cork Institute of Technology) when she passed away on April 23rd 2014. In her memory, a fund was endowed to Munster Technological University from which an annual Development Bursary is awarded to a recent graduate in Fine Art MTU Crawford College of Art & Design. She is pictured here with some of her work.
Before 1st February each year, the Head of Department of Fine Art & Applied Art will email an application form to Fine Art graduates from the previous year. The Bursary will also feature on our social media channels.
A panel of judges, one of whom will be an independent member of the Cork arts community and another a member or representative of the Gleeson Family will review all applications. The decision of the judges is final.
