We are always working with other groups on collaborative projects. If you have any collaboration ideas, please reach out. We would love to hear from you!
Here is just a taste of some of the projects we have been involved in over the years:
Every year, we bring Creativity & Change to the Global Green Eco Village at Electric Picnic, where we host an ‘Artivism Arena’ in collaboration with Cultivate, Sauti, and Leargas, as well as a whole community of artists and groups, including Safe Gigs Ireland, Elevate Youth Arts, Financial Justice Ireland and Go Dance for Change.
Here, we host open mics, gigs, discos, podcasts and workshops, all with a view to raising awareness of global issues, advocating for racial and climate justice, developing our collective creative capacities for changemaking and promoting solidarity projects and European volunteering opportunities funded through the Leargas ESC programme.
This was a celebration of women, marginalised genders, and allies through story sharing, playback theatre, performance, art, conversation & community. It was designed in collaboration with Cork Migrant Centre, Cork City Council Local Authority Integration Team, UCC Indian Alumni Community, Mexican Community in Cork, UCC Global Justice, Failte cork CSG and CYPSC.
Voice of the Trees was a celebration of the value of trees. It included a visual art and theatre workshop series, led by Chriszine Backhouse, Claire Coughlan and Helen O’ Keeffe, a visual art exhibition at MTU Gallery featuring work by artists Kathy Kirwan, Collette Mulholland , Ashleigh Ellis and Patsy Atkinson, an on-street dance performance by the New Moon Dance Company and accompanying video Tree Prayer, Tree People, by Tina Horan and Maria Young.
You can watch the video at this link.
This was an online workshop series hosted by Chriszine Backhouse, Eimear McNally, Helen O’ Keeffe and Claire Coughlan, exploring how promoting a sense of awe incites a desire for action in those who experience it.
As part of the project a national street art day was held, where collaborators installed their awe-inspiring pieces in locations throughout the country.
The Just World online workshop series was a space for international young poets to explore themes of social justice through spoken word poetry. It was facilitated by Chriszine Backhouse and Kelvin Akpaloo, and a zine and subsequent ‘Voice, Body, Power’ resource on creative methods for addressing gender-based violence with young people was developed.
Watch some of the incredible poems written over the course of the series here.
This project was a response to challenges presented by the Covid pandemic. Funded by the Teaching & Learning department in MTU, we purchased an electronic cargo bike and designed a ‘mobile classroom’ to carry materials and learning resources, inviting participants to join us on bicycles, taking the moving university to different locations around Cork City.
Watch this video to get a sense of how we facilitated this and how participants responded.
This was the Creativity & Change 10 year anniversary event. We brought together changemakers and course alumni to answer the question, What If?
The event featured talks by two of our most admired theorists, Vanessa Andreotti and Rob Hopkins. You can watch Vanessa’s input, where she introduces the work of the Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures Collective, here.
