Valerie Gleeson Development Bursary

Deirdre Frost

Having spent Erasmus in the University of Art and Design, Cluj-Napoca, in 2019, the Valerie Gleeson Development Bursary enabled me to invite Romanian PhD student, Flavia Lugigan, to Cork, following three years of continued contact between us in order to put on a two person show.

The exhibition, titled Translations, took place in Nano Nagle Place, Cork in April-May 2022, and examined our respective experiences in the urban spaces of Cork and Cluj -  two cities of similar size and the second largest cities of their respective countries.

Events programmed alongside the exhibition included presentations and dialogue with Shane Clarke (CEO of Nano Nagle Place), as well as organised group visits, and a visit and conversation with an Taoiseach Micheál Martin as part of Nano Nagle’s Council of Europe Museum Prize.
