Hiya! My name is Aoife, and I am a freelance photographer, sound engineer, videographer and graphic designer. Music and photography have been my passion since I was a child, and I’ve been an active member of the Irish gig scene since I was 14. I’ve gained so many new skills and experiences through four years of Creative Digital Media, and I look forward to progressing my studies in Music Technology in the future.
My FYP is BEO – a working prototype of a mobile app for livestreaming gigs from local artists. In a year without live music and many permanent venue closures, our stages need saving. This app sets out to do just that by supporting venues, crew and artists. It will also remove accessibility barriers for those restricted by disability or illness. With everything from tickets and merchandise to communication and networking at your fingertips, BEO is just what every Irish music fan needs.

Ciarán is a Creative Digital Media student from Cobh. I have developed skills in video production, motion graphics, graphics design and photography. My final Year Project is focused on the benefits of using Expressions in Adobe After Effects. These are snippets of code that reduce keyframes and layers. This speeds up the workflow for videos such as creating infographics.I created an Explainer Video to show what can be done when using expressions and the different areas it’s used in. I also created and accompanying designers guide to share the knowledge learned. I then created a Short Documentary called “Cobh VS Covid”, which explores Covid 19’s impact on a tourist town, Cobh. This was created with the help of Expressions for a faster workflow.

For my FYP I set out to recreate Medieval Cork from the 17th Century in a 3D environment. I wish to preserve the history of our city in a modern and innovative way. Not that many people are aware of the history of the city of Cork, and this project addresses this problem and attempts to educate those interested on the deep history of our city. I believe this project could very well live within a local museum here in Cork, and could start a new wave of digital preservation, not only for medieval Cork, but for the hundreds of other historical sites across the county and even Ireland itself.

As a designer, I try to embrace and use multiple mediums to communicate. For example, illustration, video and motion graphics. I continually try to learn and improve my skills and I see every day as a school day. I’ve found passion and my strengths in creating brand identities. Thus, my final year project creates a brand identity and promotional campaign for ‘an unapologetically Irish’ themed café and festival. The brand uses humour and nostalgia to communicate its theme. The design combines Irish – Kitsch with punk and contemporary design. Just like some questionable retro fabrics and patterns, the Ballygobackwards brand is flamboyant, playful and ‘unapologetic’. Through the whole process, I feel the brand has managed to communicate what I set out for it to do. It’s bold and funny without being offensive or insincere. It’s reminiscent of the old but has a contemporary and fresh design.

Welcome to my Final Year Project 'The Land of a Thousand Welcomes & Even More Goodbyes'.
My Final Year Project is an illustrated book influenced and inspired by what took place in Ireland's Mother and Baby Homes. In carrying out my Final Year Project I wanted to educate myself and the people around me on what was carried out. Throughout the book it tells the story of a young woman called Mags and her experience within such institutions. The story itself is fiction however, by talking to survivors and researching deeper into the history I was able to create my own narrative with all the information I had accessed. Through the imprint of illustration, I wanted to bring these happenings to light accompanied by my story and personal accounts.

Hello, my name is Bryan! I’m a graphic designer with a detail orientated and research led practice. I’m focused on creating imaginative, considered, and interesting designs, while ensuring that the individual requirements of each brief are met in the most appropriate and fitting way.
Literally Everything is Subject to Change is a process-based exploration of my creative process after five years of design education. It’s a 134-page book, spread out over eight sections. Through the use of typography (both hand-rendered and traditional) mark making, illustration, photography, linework, (minimal) colour, and layout, it is a showcase of everything I love about design. It is a reflective work, but a lot of our experiences as design students are universally shared, so I hope there’s something to be found for everyone in it.
My creative process will change: this is what it looks like after five years of design education.

Hi my name’s Clíona and I’m a graphic designer who’s main passion is illustration. The goal behind my project “Confessions of a Dumb Bitch” was to visualise these ridiculous and hilarious stories in order to show that being an idiot is something we can all relate to and it’s important to never take yourself too seriously. I love experimenting with different mediums and different methods of image making when I illustrate. For my project, my illustrations were a mixture of acrylic paintings and digital line drawings. I love using mediums like paint, oil pastels and ink for my illustrations before I scan them in digitally because I feel it gives me more freedom to be as loose and messy with my image making as I like. I wanted my illustrations to be somewhat chaotic in order to match the chaotic energy of the stories that accompanied them.

I have a great passion for graphic design and love to express and communicate my ideas visually across multiple disciplines such as typography, conceptual typographic experimentation, mark making and collage. My Final Year Project focuses on the topic of Toxic Positivity. Throughout this project I have combined both my passion for expressive typography and my deep frustration on the subject of toxic positivity, bringing awareness to the importance of accepting and embracing the darker aspects of ourselves. Toxic Positivity covers up and silences the human experience. I believe in the power of individualism and that one can achieve whatever they want regardless of their circumstances or gender if they want it enough and are willing to work for it. Therefore, for my final year project, I decided to create an illustrated book celebrating standout and weird women of history and my goal was to inspire others with their stories. Hi my name is Jack, and I’m a 22 year old visual communication student. I have a strong passion for illustration and storytelling.
For my final year project, I created a graphic novel about the effects of life with an eating disorder. Since I was child, I’ve had a huge interest in comics and superheroes. But as a larger boy, I never felt represented in media. I’ve lost a lot of weight since then and gained a lot of confidence. So the project I created combined my love of storytelling with my personal experiences with having an eating disorder.
I created a book that I think tells a heart warming and action packed story. That I know my younger, rounder self would have loved.

I like my designs to be fun, bright, bold and light hearted, and to use both still and motion solutions where I can, depending on the outcome.
My final year project is an experimental book called Learning to Bark: Bridging the Disconnect. In this book, I want to look at the obvious relationship that exists between people and dogs – you ask anyone with a dog and they will have some standard knowledge of what a dog does, and what they mean to them – yet being two different animals, an obvious disconnect must exist between us. I want to explore this light heartedly and simply through gathering some facts and research, while also looking at my own memories and associations I have gathered about dogs throughout my life.

This project communicates to the reader some of the thoughts and feelings towards artists and their art. I really enjoyed this project, and I had a lot of fun, from beginning to end!

Hey! My name is Kris and I’m a designer/illustrator. I like designing and illustrating of course but I also like listening to music, playing games and daydreaming. I like to treat the world as my own visual playground to create visually stimulating work that people can experience and enjoy.
My final year project is about the different connotations’ colours have in my family which leads to stories, arguments and different outlooks on life.

Hi, I'm Luke. I'm a Visual Communications student who loves films, books and any good story, wanting to bring my own stories to life through illustration. My project is an illustrated book inspired by the real actions of a woman who illegally cut down 250 trees in Cork to protect and preserve the local ecosystem.

I have always had a massive interest in tattoos, and I have been slowly covering my body in ink. I always have to explain why I wanted to do this to myself. I decided to do this book to explain to everyone why we cover our body in tattoos. We have all heard the reasons why we shouldn’t get them, so here is 101 reasons why you should cover your body in tattoos.

Hi, I’m Maria.
About halfway through this course I realised how much I love storytelling through animation. Since Visual Communications is mainly a design course, I decided to do a lot of animation research outside of college hours. I then squeezed animation into as many design projects as possible.
This year I lost my dad, and this final year project became my way of coming to terms with that. My short film aims to acknowledge the heartache of a slow goodbye in a way that is approachable and digestible. I hope you like it.

Hello, I’m Michaela, an illustrator and graphic designer. I love to combine my style of illustration with graphic design that is playful, bright and fun. My favourite areas are illustration, branding, packaging and editorial design.
My final year project is called “Gender Poetry”, a book which explores the unique relationship between lesbianism and gender identity. The book consists mostly of illustration and typography, as well as some infographic work. I chose this topic as it is something very personal to me.

Hello there, I’m Neasa. I am a graphic designer with a keen interest for branding and packaging. I consider myself to be a human centred designer with a particular passion for working with meaningful stories / values to communicate through brand identities.
My final year project, titled ‘The Mischief Man’, is a restaurant brand based off the wonderful character of my mischievous grandad, Andy Kelly.
“Great characters never truly die” were the words spoken at my grandad’s farewell. His unforgettable mischief in the kitchen was known to all and to honour these humorous memories and stories I have created this brand narrative based in his homeplace as the restaurant location, where he carried out his mischief on family and friends.
This brand is a celebration of storytelling, memories, reminiscence and a great character whose stories I want to share as a unique dining experience.

My name is Sarah O’Connell and I am a Visual Communications Student. I’ve always had a great interest in art and design growing up. I have a keen interest in editorial design and typography. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time studying Visual Communications and it has helped me develop my creative skills.
My final year project ‘Behind the Bargain’ takes a look at the negative impact fast fashion has on people and the environment. I chose to create a magazine that appeals to girls and shows the problem and what we can do to fix it and be more sustainable and develop a good relationship with our clothes.

Hi I’m Sarah! My project focuses in on the cultural impact of the ‘Irish Pub’ on us as a nation, with reference to some particular favourite haunts of Cork City. This idea came to light in a time when our most beloved institution was, for the first time since prohibition, shut away from us. I wanted to highlight the positive aspects of pub-going and evoke a sense of nostalgia as you read the different accounts associated with each pub mentioned. I use photography with image making techniques and typography to accomplish this.

What I have chosen to do for my final year project is a graphic novel on dementia. It is a condition prevalent in Ireland that afflicts people and those around them.
