Through the 'Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement 2020' Fund, Drawbridge is
creating a series of 4 videos addressing the value of contemporary drawing methods
and techniques within the STEM disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. The fully
completed Science video featuring artists Angela Gilmour, Ida Mitrani and Megan Eustace can already be
seen on our home page or by following the link: https://vimeo.com/manage/videos/793024007
Throughout this project, Drawbridge consulted with STEM departments in MTU and artists who explore and utilise STEM disciplines as part of their research and practice. These 4 videos promote drawing as an experiential and experimental practice, and counteract the tendancy to position drawing instruction in STEM subjects mainly within media digital drawing programmes. By making these videos we hope to show how drawing can be applied within specialist fields and its importance in progressing research and knowledge within STEM industries.
These videos would not be possible without participating artists Angela Gilmour, Ida Mitrani, Megan Eustace, Susan Morris, Vivienne Roche and Peter Nash. Our conversations demonstrate how drawing can strengthen spatial awareness and problem-solving skills, build confidence and ultimately help to communicate thoughts and ideas. Drawing is a generative power, and it's capacity to engage in experimentation and learning in action is obvious through this project.
Currently our videos are in post-production but we are incredibly excited to share them with you soon!
