Story? – International Student Documentary Festival, the only international student documentary film festival of its kind in Ireland, was established in 2018 to showcase documentaries and animation with documentary elements under 25 minutes produced by students at universities and other third level colleges in Ireland and internationally. The fourth STORY? festival will take place on 4&5 November at Munster Technological University (MTU) in lovely Cork City, Ireland.
The festival is run by the Media Communications Department at MTU, which is part of the MTU Crawford College of Art and Design, and is proudly supported by MTU’s Arts Office.
Story? 2021 is honoured to have distinguished documentary maker Tom Roberts as chairman of the final judging panel for this year’s festival. Tom, who is the founder of October Films in the UK, is one of the leading documentary directors of his generation with dozens of films to his credit, many of which represent landmarks in the history of UK documentary. He has won over 55 international awards and nominations, and we are grateful for his participation in Story? 2021.
Over the past three years we have screened documentaries from Cork, Ireland, the UK, Europe, USA, South America, Asia, and Africa. This year there was once again a fantastic number of excellent student works entered from all over the world. Their films are insightful, innovative, and inspiring.
Filmmakers whose documentaries were featured at previous festivals came to Cork for the awards ceremony and had a great time exploring its attractions. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, since 2020 we have had to move the festival online and look forward to welcoming you to view the two selected programmes. We hope to have the festival screenings back in MTU Rory Gallagher Theatre in 2022, and to sharing the events in person with the film makers.
