As a photographer, I am drawn to the energy and vibrancy of Cork's drag scene, which inspires me to capture the artistry and talent of its performers. My project is a personal exploration of this unique and captivating world, through which I hope to pay homage to the incredible skill and creativity of these artists. The Queens of the scene were instrumental in my growth as a photographer, through their trust and encouragement. My aim was to create a photobook that not only documented their journey and progression as talented artists and performers but also served as a tribute to their camaraderie and celebrates the unique voices of Cork’s small but mighty Queer community.
This photography series by Philip Corkery showcases the fresh and emerging talent of the Irish Music Scene through vibrant, colourful and contrasty portraiture. The aim of this project is to showcase the individuality and passion of these artists by focusing on their expressions and nuances of their style. This series invites viewers to discover the next generation of Irish musicians, each with their own sound, style and story. These artists are paving the way for the future of Irish music. This series celebrates their talent and hopes to inspire the future generation of music artists to explore their potential.
My practice is guided by my curiosity and the endless permutations of life and light.
I am interested in how we as humans leave our mark on the landscape. Our presence in the land is evident in our everyday lives, domestically, industrially, socially, agriculturally and historically. I am drawn to the overlooked or unseen elements in the land that the regular passer-by is unattuned to.
The types of landscapes I document would be very specific and carefully chosen and speak to me on an emotional level.
As a photographer my eyes are constantly looking at and are aware of the human impact and presence of our everyday lives.
This project came about during Covid when farmers were allowed to continue to operate as essential workers. Lockdown gave me the chance to use farming as a creative outlet. My Uncle Con became the focus of this project. Due to feedback from my lecturers, I decided to develop this idea further and for the last few months I have explored the story of my Uncle Con, his personality, my relationship with him and displayed the farm in the process.
As a portrait photographer I aim to create images that reveal the unique characteristics of each individual, whether it’s a candid moment or a carefully composed portrait. By focusing on what’s in the environment and the subject I strive to tell the story of the person in front of the lens. My approach is to let the subject tell the story of who they are.
For this project I began with interviewing the models so I would understand their personas best as possible to create a portrait that would represent them and to also know what the best way would be to shoot them.
I’ve found that my passion and interests lie within everyday people’s lives.
Working with these people through community-based projects has given me the opportunity to explore their world.
I would like to convey through the imagery of their everyday world, how people like myself feel in it.
I’ve found that investigating these spaces creates a sense of place for me, e.g., through childhood memories of happy Sundays, of an innocence lost and now forgotten, of Sunday rituals for family and community that now no longer seem important, and in its place, there is this strange “Silence”.
My intention was to create a selection of films based on my experiences. With one film visually exploring the concept of my own paranoia alongside my interest in horror films. The other film explores gender identity and self-acceptance, a very personal topic which I wanted to develop in a way that would allow the viewer to understand the internal struggle of someone grappling with their own identity.
For my photography project, titled “The Actor’s Expression”, my goal was to capture actors in performance while they’re in their element which is when the realism of an actor’s prepared character is most prominent.
As an Explorer, I am drawn to the beauty and complexity of the natural world, and for my latest photography project, I have been exploring the Irish landscape through a unique lens. My goal has been to give the familiar scenery of the Irish landscape a fresh and ambiguous new look, inviting viewers to question their assumptions about what they see and how they perceive the world around them. By playing with lighting, composition, and colour, I have created a series of images that are at once recognizably Irish yet a new, ambiguous celebration of the beauty and mystery of the Irish landscape.
Hello! My name is Damian Coleman and the main interest of my studies has been the area of PR and Press Photography. I have worked freelance for a number of years in the area working with a number of corporate clients doing photography, video and graphics.
My final project continues to investigate this interest of documenting the world around me and looks to capture the hidden lives of people who we may not often see.
To do this work I looked at the people who make up the workforce of a Multinational Pharmaceutical Company and their lives outside of work.
