MTU Crawford College of Art and Design is a vibrant multi-campus college, which has been providing education in the arts for over a 100 years.

In the Media Communications Department – communications and media are at the centre of what we do in all our programmes, with key focus on their commercial context and application, where creativity meets traditional, new and emerging technologies.

We live in an increasingly changing, converging, globalised world and creative practice allows us to imagine something different. We believe in using media as a method for delivering communication in all forms to key intended audiences. Established on a foundation of theory, practice, meaning and culture, students engage in in a creative process whether it be hand drawn, digitally generated, written, published, deployed, produced, coded, edited, rendered or created.

Students discover their creative voice through their chosen specialisation whether it be; illustration, animation, video, sound, motion, web design, podcasts, film, writing, production, promotion, branding, editorial. Lecturers work closely with students to develop their interests, skills and potential as part of their career path development. The broad approach to our programme design, we feel, provides opportunities for students to explore their career path and find, as well as identify their strengths and push the boundaries of their own potential.

The programmes within the Department, aim to equip students to be flexible and intuitive and aware of the societal and cultural impacts of their work in a world where creativity is core to solving problems whether it be for an individual, community, wider society or an organisation.

In reaching a mature stage in the delivery of programmes, our graduates contribute to the development of emerging trends, win awards and lead within their industries; e-Learning, Journalism, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Film, Web, Photography, videography, motion design, branding, visualisation from certificate to PhD level.
