Deorudáin

12 March 2026

Deorudáin - MTU CCAD BA (hons) Fine Art 3rd Year Exhibition. 19th to 25th March, 10am to 4pm at James Barry Exhibition Centre, MTU Bishopstown Campus

Deorudáin is our group exhibition showing at the James Barry Exhibition Centre, displaying a collection of work produced during our third year of the CCAD BA Fine Art course at MTU. The exhibition has been materialised by students and third year Fine Art staff. Curator Eamonn Maxwell, member of the Arts Council of Ireland and curator of the Irish Pavilion at the 2011 Venice Biennale, has selected the works for the show. The exhibition is funded by the MTU Arts Office and Connect Le Chéile Arts Project Fund. The use of the Old Irish word Deorudáin translating to ‘wanderers’ as the title for our exhibition acts as a double meaning in which not only does it represent the idea of our role as ‘wanderers’ excavating and investigating knowledge that exists in this world, but also that Deorudáin itself acts as metaphor in the context for how this Old Irish word exists in few written recordings and is relatively unknown; its existence buried in the archives, quietly blanketed by time but waiting to be rediscovered and reborn. Through recontextualizing old artistic modes of creation within our contemporary art practices, we uncover, revitalise and question these areas of exploration and methodology throughout our time in the studio and in workshops; allowing us to consider new perspectives as we each lead with an innate curiosity into our areas of interests. Our exhibition highlights a rich, diverse range of work that is informed by and connected through in depth practices of discovery and rediscovery that is always evolving across time and place; to be Deorudáin is to traverse and unearth this wild, enduring, complex and varied landscape that mirrors a lifelong artistic practice that is driven by a desire for investigation, understanding and making that is ever changing and bears new meaning. Deorudáin will be opened by curator Eamonn Maxwell at the James Barry Exhibition Centre, Bishopstown, on Thursday 19th of March at 10am. The show runs from Thursday 19th to Wednesday 25th of March, 2026. Artists involved in the exhibition will be present for questions and discussions at the centre throughout the show’s duration. Supported by arts.mtu.ie and Connect Le Chéile Arts Project Fund.
