Through lectures and tutorials you will learn about the best practices involved in teaching art and design.
Workshops cover art and design disciplines such as drawing, painting, ceramics, textiles, sculpture along with graphic design, environmental design and digital media. This will provide you with the subject knowledge you will need to teach the second level Art and Design curriculum. Ongoing professional school placement in a second level school – where you will teach students and work with the school’s art teacher – will develop your capacity as an educator within the Irish second level education system.
Second Level Art Teachers • Third Level Art Educators • Education Officer • Artists in Residence in Primary and Secondary Schools • School Principals and Deputy-Principals • Independent Art Education Policy Consultants and Researchers • Museum Curators • Youth Workers • Arts Officers
Folium-21 showcases sketchbook extracts from nine of the twenty-two PME 2 (Art & Design) students on the Professional Master of Education (Art & Design) programme, 2019-21. The selected pages provide an insight into the challenging but rewarding process of planning for teaching and learning in the Irish secondary school art classroom. View the online exhibition here.
