What is the course about?

BA hons in Fine Art is a studio based programme,  where students can explore and engage with: painting, drawing, sculpture, print, photography, performance, sound, video and digital media in varied contexts.  Students are encouraged to explore a wide range of media in order to develop their individual art practice. 

The course encourages enquiry-based learning, informed by current theoretical debates and historical contexts that shape our understanding of contemporary art. Students are given the opportunity to initiate and develop their own programme of work with tutorial guidance and technical support. 

 

The course places great importance on introducing students to the professional world of art and achieves this through a high profile visiting lecture series, collaborative projects with artists, art professionals & partner institutions, exhibition trips and international study trips. 

The Fine Art course is delivered in the Sharman Crawford Street campus and in the Sober Lane campus.

Modules include: Studio Practice, Art History, Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Print, Mould-making, Video, Professional Practice, Critical Theory and more!

Materials and Equipment Fee

The Materials and Equipment Fee is specific to programmes CR_AACER_8 (Contemporary Applied Art) & CR_AFAFA_8 (Fine Art), and is used to support students general materials and equipment. The fee is set at €100 for 1st year students.

Part-time students pay the full fee of €100 but no further charge is made to them until they complete year 1. There is no fee for repeat or exam-only students – they will have to source their own materials, these can be purchased at the material store. Students will receive 50% back if they withdraw before the 31st October. This fee is not funded by Susi and must be paid in Semester 1.
