Bringing the Light is a collaborative project between Year 1 Contemporary Applied Art students from MTU Crawford College of Art & Design in Cork and students from the Glass Dept. at the National University of the Arts in Bucharest, Romania. The overarching premise of the project is looking at sustainability within studio practice. The themes the students explored looked at environmental awareness around climate change and the urban/rural divide where students from both institutions shared and responded to their gathered research and subsequently produced works made from 100% recycled glass . An exhibition of the works took place in Bucharest in June 2024 where 7 of Year 1 students travelled to install the exhibition and take part in other events.
The exhibition will open at the LHQ Gallery at the Cork County Hall on the 5th March. The Romanian ambassador to Ireland will attend the opening along with Prof. Maggie Cusack, President of MTU. The exhibition will run until the 14th March 2025.
